Bus Carrying College Students Overturns In Richmond, 30 Injured

At least 30 college students have been injured, non-life threatening with one critical, Sunday evening after a bus overturned on an exit ramp of the Powhite Parkway in North Chesterfield County, south of Richmond, while returning to three Virginia campuses after Thanksgiving holiday.

According to Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller, a chartered bus carrying 50 passengers went out of control and overturned. The bus driver too was injured in the incident with others and most of the injuries are defined as just bumps and bruises.

The students were picked up by the bus at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond and were to drop at University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Radford University and Virginia Tech.

The 58-year-old bus driver Thomas B. Chidester has been charged with reckless driving.

Concerned parents reached the scene after the incident as many of the students called them briefing the flipping of the bus.
