Google ( NASDAQ: GOOG ) is King for a Reason
There really is a reason why Google ( GOOG – Google Inc.) stays on top of the internet search business. Months ago people seemed to be overly concerned with what bing would do to the search industry… turned out to be nothing. As a webmaster, people are constantly asking me how they can improve their site’s rankings. I was always asked what I thought about new search engines like bing. Bing just does not work. Bing is a novelty, not something that I ever envisioned to be long lasting. Look at it now, as soon as the advertising campaign stopped, people stopped going to it. ABC’s Go.com, which uses yahoo search, still receives more traffic than bing, and I have never seen any ads on tv.
Google is in the process of updating the way we search, again. Google has decided to reward QUALITY webmasters by trying to stop posting duplicate content in their search results. Nobody likes seeing 300+ AP links for the same story, all posted on different sites. Real webmasters that actually have original content, and not trying to sell you something, will be able to work on their content again.
If you do not own a website, you do not understand the needless linking that goes on to increase one’s “page-rank.” I personally never tried too hard to increase our page-rank, and just worked on promoting our content to those I know would enjoy it. Google has done it again, and it is a great reward to publishers that care about their readers and not just about “marketing something.”
If you didn’t realize this, many websites are set up just to earn income from things like Google adsense. No thought goes into the content, just in “ranking” high enough in a competitive keyword to make money. With Google’s new “caffeine” those days may be over… finally.
If you want quality results, go for the concrete source, do not buy into a novelty imitation.
