Voters Not Sure About Palin

M and PRasmussen Reports has just released the first poll on Sarah Palin taken after her speech and the results show that while she is doing good with Republicans, there is still a high percentage of other voters who are unsure.

Overall, 51% of the voters think she was the right choice while 32% say she was not and 17% are not sure. She does better with men than she does with women, getting a yes from 55% of the men 48% of the women. An equal amount of men and women - 17%- are not sure. She has won over the Republicans getting a yes from 81%, no from 10% with 9% unsure. However, with the Democrats she gets a yes from 26%, no from 54% and an unsure from 26%. She is not winning over the Hillary Clinton supporters like it was thought she would. She fares a bit better with the third party and independent voters getting 52% yes, 25% no and 23% still not sure.

The voters are much more certain when it comes to giving her a favorable or unfavorable rating. And this points out the fact that just because a candidate gets a favorable rating, it does not necessarily mean that they will get the vote. A voter can view more than one candidate as favorable, but can only vote for one. Overall, Palin gets 40% very favorable, 18% somewhat favorable, 19% somewhat unfavorable and 18% very unfavorable. Again, she does much better with men than with women with 45% of the men and 36% of the women, giving her a very favorable rating and 12% of the men and 23% of the women giving her a vary unfavorable rating.

But just 40% think that she would be able to take over as President, a lot less than the 58% who give her at least a somewhat favorable rating. This comes from 45% of the men and 35% of the women. Overall 46% say she is not ready - 42% of the men and 49% of the women. And 15% - 13% of the men and 16% of the women- are not sure.

She is not hitting the mark on the question of experience either with 48% - 44% of the men and 52% of the women giver the nod to Barack Obama and 44% - 47% of the men and 41% of the women saying it is Palin.

So far, everything point to Palin getting support, but from the same demographics as John McCain. She needs to get support from other groups - Hillary Clinton supporters for one - and that is not happening. She has to hit the campaign trail and convince the American voters that she has a knowledge of national and international affairs, way beyond the borders of Alaska.
