Congressman Wants Scott McClellan to Testify Under Oath

Scott McClellanThe number one book on the must read list of anyone the least bit interested in politics is “What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington’s Culture of Deception” by former White House press secretary Scott McClellan. It has so many scathing revelations about the Bush administration, which so far are just McClellan’s word against theirs, that Democratic Congressman Robert Wexler is calling on McClellan to testify under oath before the house judiciary committee.

Wexler has been a Congressman since 1997 and serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where he is Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe, is a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee.

The impact of a book like this, if the stories and allegations can be backed up, will have world wide implications, not to mention what it will do to the Presidential race. The White House says the allegations are false, but what if McClellan can back up even some of his allegations with proof, then this will go donw as one of the biggest years in American history. It is hard to fathom that anyone would write such a book without having proof or that any publisher would publish it if he could not back up his facts.

This is not the first book written by former administration staff that is critical of the President. Not by far, but it seems to be the one getting the most attention. Maybe because McClellan worked for the President for such a long period of time, starting when Bush was the Governor of Texas back in 1999.

There are questions as to why he waited until almost 2 years after he left the administration to bring up the accusations. And they are legitimate questions. But you do not go and write a book like this on the spur of the moment. He is accusing someone who was considered a friend as well as a boss as well as people he worked closely with. I know if I were in his position, I would think it over very carefully before I penned a book such as this. I would make sure I had my facts straight and that I could produce evidence to prove my allegations.

One thing is certain. If Scott McClellan does testify before Congress, it will be one of the most watched testimonies ever.
