Film academy invites 683 new members to join

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is going to change as promised last year. Now, Academy has invited 683 new members to join; those persons represent 59 countries, among them 46 percent female, and 41 percent minority.

According to the President Cheryl Boone Isaacs, the Academy intended to double the number of female and minority members in its ranks by 2020. New 683 members are already got an official invitation to join the Academy, and if they all accept an offer, the academy’s overall membership 27 percent female and 11 percent non-white (up from 25 percent and 8 percent respectively).

Among the invitees are Zhao Fei (China), Yohei Taneda (Japan), Idris Elba, Patricia Riggen (Mexico). As noted Boone Isaacs, last 2016 invitees pool is the largest ever.
