Formula 1 held a meeting with the manufacturers on Friday, the top management aimed at the creation the cheaper and noisier engines. Jean Todt wants the cheaper and noisier engines from 2021.

The meeting resulted in the solid agreement, which underlines the abandoning the 1.6-litre turbo hybrid units. Despite this decision, some technology still remains, said the technical specialist. The document also stated that the engines to remain road relevant – but in the simpler, cheaper manufacturing option. And noisier one, of course.

Mr Todt stressed that he is very pleased with the process, it is the rare case when many stakeholders with the different views agreed on this important FIA Formula 1 technical issue.

“Of course, now we must sit down and work through the fine details of exactly what the 2021 power units will be – but we have begun on the right foot, and I am looking forward to working through the process to come up with the best decision for Formula 1 into the future,”

Jean Todt added.
