Meetings in the Dominican Republic headed by leaders of the countries became the first step in a political dialogue. Government and opposition of Venezuela started negotiation. These meetings were headed by the former government leaders – Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, ex-President of the Dominican Leonel Fernandez and former Panamanian President Martin Torrijos. These diplomats were invited by secretary general UNASUR (Union of South American Nations) pact.
The government and the opposition in Venezuela could take the first step towards each other. Meetings, held in this weekend, were the beginning of a political dialogue. Mayor of Caracas, Jorge Rodriguez, wrote about important event on his Twitter. Venezuela’s foreign minister Delcy Rodríguez, Elías Jaua, Congressman and Mayor of Caracas, Jorge Rodriguez presented the country on Dominican meetings.
MUD party leader confirmed the meeting with former world leaders, but denied a direct dialogue with representatives of Nicolas Maduro’s government. MUD Executive Secretary Jesus Chuo Torrealba wrote on Twitter: “The only genuine dialogue that the Venezuelan people care about is the referendum vote, the freedom of prisoners and political exiles and attention to the victims of this humanitarian crisis.”
Financial and humanitarian crisis in Venezuela influents all its sectors; country experiences acute shortage of food, medicines, and inflation becomes hyperinflation extremely fast. Earlier this month, opposition leaders gathered 1.85 million signatures to electoral authorities to open a referendum proceedings against sitting President Maduro.
