Debate Poll : Who Do You Think Won The Presidential Debate?
POLL LOCATED ON SIDEBAR
Who do you think exits the town hall victorious? I feel McCain really hurt his chances when he stated that he would like lower the principle on bad mortgages. This goes against what 99% of the American people think.
This town hall format, was what McCain had been pushing for from the start. Do you think this format worked for him?
I, as well as many Americans, are getting sick of this election. This has literally been going on for over two years. I personally love politics but… this has personally gone on long enough for me. I think this will encourage Americans not to vote at all, because frankly they are sick of their choices.
I have heard both campaigns argue the exact same point. Yet both campaigns continue to fight about the same things.

Obama rocked!!
Comment by josephbbl on 7 October 2008:
McCain looked like an idiot. For example, McCain said eBay was “a job engine.” Didn’t eBay just announce yesterday 10,000 job layoffs? And what about tax cuts for the rich? Not too many voters favor that or the recently passed bailout (unless they are getting the benefits). Finally, if we use 25% of the world’s oil, yet have only 3% of the production, would drilling for more oil and nuclear power alone get us out of foreign oil dependency? How do we pay for the nuclear power anyway with the tax cuts? McCain didn’t make sense.
Comment by blip on 7 October 2008:
McCain always comes off so angrily in these events. It’s like he knows that he’s been running around town saying horrible things about Obama… but when he tries to look civil in a debate setting… he just cracks under the weight of his own shame… and blames Obama for his guilt.
“That One!” comment by McCain totally creeped me out.
Comment by Terry Pearson on 7 October 2008:
I thought McCain did awesome! I have not been a huge fan of his, but today he really did great.
Comment by debra wagler on 7 October 2008:
Obama is the man of the hour – no question a bout it!!
Comment by jr gaufin on 7 October 2008:
Obana is prepared to deal with complexity, a new vision, and values that represent most americans. McCain is trying to keep it simple, and that is not very smart!!
Comment by Steve Swanson on 7 October 2008:
When you call a Senator that has fought for you and worked for you an idiot that just shows your bias and inability to see all sides. McCain and Obama have done more for this country than most of us ever will. Plus Ebay is not laying off 10,000 it’s 1,000. Do you understand any company in the financial climate that we are in today is subject to layoffs. It’s an unfortunate fact. That doesn’t change the bottom line that ebay has been one of the most successful ground up companies to emerge in the last 10 years. Another comment of McCain cracks under the weight of his own shame. What is your basis if not bias. Your speaking of a man who spent 5 years in a cage for you. Could you do the same? So now I’m going to come off as being a McCain supporter. That is not the point I’m trying to make. It’s about respecting all views. There is no democrat and no republican who’s agenda it is to destroy the United States. We all want prosperity. We just have different ideas of how to get there. If you choose to mud sling and not listen to ALL IDEAS, you are a part of the problem and not the solution. God Bless our Country and God Bless all the people willing to work, love and fight for it, no matter what your political preference. Peace
Comment by Susan on 7 October 2008:
Obama was a class act. McCain was like a circus side-show.
I was undecided before….not anymore!
Comment by rose on 7 October 2008:
Obama owned the stage. McCain spoke down to Americans like we were 5 years old in Romper Room.
McCain has stated many time he knows how to get Bin Laden. Why hasn’t he told any one? This comment from the man who slogan is country first. McCain is clueless.
Comment by Carol on 7 October 2008:
Obama is the one with fresh ideas and a vision for this country. McSame is just the same old “deregulate” everything that got us into this mess economically. Obama did an excellent job explaining the difference here and pointing out the dangers of trying to work “across state lines” as McCain suggested. And McCain’s ridiculous suggestion about paying off mortgages–while “cutting spending”? Even Krauthammer had to spew on that one. There is such a clear distinction between them. Obama isn’t “that one” as McCain so disparagingly said. He is “THE one”.
Comment by alice on 8 October 2008:
Obama won the debate hands down, and I really cannot see how anyone can say McCain had any strong points. My vote is for the candidate who knows how to use logic and reason, rather than insult my intelligence by using the disarm with charm tactic as the McCain Palin ticket so clearly does. I want the outsourcing of jobs to stop, health care and college to be affordable, and I want this planet cleaned up so our children’s children have something decent to live in. We owe it to them to make the right choice this time. And Obama is The One!
Comment by Elaine on 8 October 2008:
Obama won this debate, no question. And on the campaign trail, McCain and Palin have proven that they will say anything, do anything to win this election. I’ve been a Christian since I was a small child, but SP’s version of Christianity is nothing that I understand or condone. To continuously lie to the public, to grossly misrepresent Senator Obama’s record, not to mention malign his character and patriotism, is mean-spirited and in fact, dangerous. Have you seen how SP whips up crowds with her lies and innuendos, such that a few scary people are reacting with violent suggestions? We do have a dark underbelly in this country who don’t need much of an excuse to act on their violent impulses. I am appalled that McCain and Palin would put Senator Obama and his lovely family in the line of fire for the nutbag population. It is irresponsible, to say the least, and a deliberate provocation to violence, at worst. I hope there is stepped-up protection for Senator Obama as a result of these lies and smears. I have NO respect for Palin or McCain, and am, in fact, horrified that the rest of the world sees us debating over this very clear choice for our president. Obama has the intelligence, the judgment, the deliberative thinking, the right plans, the calm in the face of adversity, etc., etc.–I could go on and on here–but the point is, he is the hope for the future of our country and truly cares about and will fight for those of us who weren’t born with that silver spoon in our mouths. And Senator Biden was a superb choice as running mate, unlike Palin, who is little more than a scary sideshow. Vote Obama/Biden 2008!!!

McCain made a big deal about a “$3 million overhead projector” for the Chicago planetarium. Duh!! That “overhead projector” is a Schmidt Planetarium Projector, the thing that looks like a cross between the Palomar telescope and Mr. Peanut. A complex instrument like this is worth every penny of the $3M.
What will he be saying next, “NASA is wasting billions on shooting off skyrockets”?
Maybe McLame doesn’t have the wherewithal to comprehend it, but tens of thousands of schoolkids get their first exposure to the mysteries and wonders of the Cosmos by going to planetarium shows. In this case, specifically the underprivileged kids from Chicago’s South Side.
But I guess those kids don’t matter much to McSame — not as much as scoring a cheap and bogus “gotcha” point in a debate where he clearly showed his crotchety, combative nature.
This is not the man we want representing us on the national and world stage.
Comment by Merry on 8 October 2008:
I was undecided. After McCain’s dismal aggressive floundering and dithering last night, I am voting for Barack Obama. Mr. Obama has convinced me to be a man of vision and integrity. We need that for our country.
Comment by sarah on 8 October 2008:
okay, so apparantly all of you who are raving about obama didn’t see him get cut off by the moderator (who is a liberal if i’m not mistaken, so there was no bias towards mccain) and told to follow the directions that both campaigns thought up. obama also circled around questions and completely ignored some in order to rebuttle anything mccain said that he didn’t like. mccain was able to get under obamas skin, and make him visibly angry to the point that he made himself look like a fool.
McCain is obviously a man of integrity and honor, and he is the only candadite who has served in a war, which is different than a. bush and b. clinton (at least bush was in the national guard, rather than taking a vacation to canada to dodge the draft) but he is better equipped than the last two presidents that we have had AND his opponent.
I think the country is very naive to support Obama in an election when he has no concept of understanding the core issues that are being faced today. (and 2 years as a senator doesn’t count as real training)
Comment by That One on 8 October 2008:
Terry Pearson – What debate were you watching? Or was that sarcasm? If so, haha! You got me. If not… I will pray that you finally remove the cloak of partisan politics and vote on issues that will actually impact you.
Hopefully Obama wins and the middle class gets a tax break for once!
Comment by Sara on 8 October 2008:
First, thank you Steve Swanson for your words as well as Elaine, I could not agree with either of you more.
I found myself feeling sorry for John McCain, and genuinely worried about his health. His breathing sounded labored. This worries me. I can not seriously contemplate Mrs. Palin running America. Just the thought sends shivers down my spine.
I have asked and have never got a yes answer to this: Did John McCain put the best possible republican on the ticket for his VP? How could he put Mrs. Palin on the ticket? This tactic of his has left a very bad taste in my mouth.
And while I’m on the subject, where is she? Where is she to answer the tough questions. I want her on Meet the Press to see how she handles it. She couldn’t handle Katie Couric but she could handle running the country?! This circus of a campaign has gone on long enough.
Comment by Jema on 15 October 2008:
When will people wake up?!?! There is no real difference between Obama and McCain. A vote for Obama IS a vote for McCain! Both are for globalism, socialism and have their records to prove this. Who cares about what crap they dish out at the debate. Do we really believe what politicians tell us? Do the homework. Check out their voting records. For example… check out their foreign policy advisors… based on this, their foreign policy does not differ that much from each other. For the love of peace wake up and do your homework! Stop believing this nonsense that Republicans and Democrats are different and will provide any real change? Look at their track records… have either party actually done this in the past few decades!?!?!
Vote Third Party! Vote your conscience!!
Comment by Malin on 15 October 2008:
I would like to ask John McCain where I can find a half-decent family health insurance for $5800 a year? He is so out of touch.
Comment by Hillary Supporter on 16 October 2008:
I would like to ask Obama how hes going to pay for all his programs in this economy..
Obama’s plan will shove us right into a depression.
At least we have a chance with McCain.
Comment by Marie Wheeler on 18 October 2008:
Mr. McCain is a junkyard bully. As a teacher, I see this every day. Students who put others down to make themselves feel big. I am not Joe Plummer and there are millions of citizens that do not fit the profile for Joe Plummer. I wanted to know Mr. McCain’s plan for the helping the nation’s economy, healthcare problems and the education crisis. Instead of speaking to one man, he should have address the nation. He will not win the election by appealing to the Joe Plummers of the nation. He will need the average voting citizen’s help to put him in the White House. He lost my vote!
