Election Minus Two Weeks and Counting
With just over two weeks to go. I’ve been thinking about what election night would be like. What would the totals look like as the polls close across the nation, time zone by time zone.
So, if all the states go with the candidate who is currently leading in that state, this is what we will see.
As the polls close first in the Eastern Time Zone, Obama takes a big lead. Even with giving McCain states where the two of them are tied. Florida and Ohio are still considered swing states. He needs to hold on to them and pick up some of the swing states in the next two time zones.
Obama
Connecticut 7, Delaware3 , District of Columbia3, Maine 4, Maryland 10, Massachusetts 12, New Hampshire 4, New Jersey 15, New York 31, North Carolina 15, Pennsylvania 21, Rhode Island 4, Vermont 3, Virginia13 Total 145
McCain
Florida 27, Georgia 15, Ohio 20, South Carolina 8, West Virginia 5 Total 75
McCain catches up a bit in the Central Time Zone.
Obama
Illinois 21, Iowa 7, Minnesota 10, Missouri 11, Wisconsin 10, Michigan 17 Total 76 + 145= 221
McCain
Alabama 9, Arkansas 6, Louisiana 9, Mississippi 6, Oklahoma 7, Kansas 6, Nebraska 5, North Dakota 3, South Dakota 3, Texas 34, Indiana 11, Kentucky 8, Tennessee 11 Total 118 + 75 = 193
And in the Mountain Time Zone
Obama
New Mexico 5, Colorado 9 Total 14 + 221= 235
McCain
Arizona 10, Wyoming 3, Utah 5, Montana 3, Idaho 4 Total 25 + 193 = 218
But the Pacific Time Zone belongs all to Obama. If McCain does not pick up some of the swing states, especially in the Central Time Zone, then he has lost, because the west belongs to Obama. He would win with 43 over the needed total. He could loose both Washington and Oregon and still win.
Obama
California 55, Nevada 5, Oregon 7, Washington 11 Total 78 + 235 = 313
Alaska 3 goes to McCain bringing his final total to 221
Hawaii 4 goes to Obama bringing his final total to 317.
There are only 8 states left that are considered swing states – Florida, North Carolina, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, North Dakota and Nevada and 6 out of the 8 are where McCain is leading. So McCain could loose 6 states and Obama is in danger of losing only 2.
Next week we will take another look at the time zones and see which state has moved where and why. And of course, should anything happen before then, it will be examined. The long two years are just about over.
