Iowa Results Are In, What Now?

Barack Obama commanded the Democratic field with a 8% lead over John Edwards and a 9% lead over Hillary Clinton. Mike Huckabee seemed to take the caucuses from Mitt Romney with ease, a 9% lead. Joe Biden and Chris Dodd have already stated that they will be dropping out of the race. This makes sense for them as they have allocated almost all of their resources to Iowa, especially Chris Dodd who relocated his family to the state.

The Iowa caucuses really consist of older folk willing to sit through a meeting to voice their support. I was completely surprised that Barack Obama was able to capture the vote, but maybe he promised signed copies of “O” magazine if his voters turned out.

Mike Huckabee has seemed to charm the state, because everybody knows he cannot buy it. Mitt Romney did try to buy it, and that did not work. Huckabee may just be glad he didn’t have any money to compete financially. Mitt Romney’s loss is really John McCain and Ron Paul’s gain in New Hampshire. This may have completely derailed Mitt Romney’s approach to this election and may ultimately cause him to crash and burn; forcing him to dropout of the race completely.

Caucuses always have different results than lets say… primaries. They are more of the lines of a Straw Poll for the Republicans and a “who do you likes? ok… I like him too” for the Democrats. The Barack Obama victory may actually let him control this race, for now. Nobody will know what is going on until super duper Tuesday for the Republicans. Huckabee’s charm will just not continue to charm, Mitt Romney may have given up as much as Fred Thompson, Giuliani is still waiting for Florida, and Ron Paul may just have a chance, to break through to the average “angry” American.
