Mitt Romney Wins Nevada, Ron Paul placed second

UPDATE:  Ron Paul does indeed place second

This could turn out to be an incredibly historic day. The Nevada caucus results are just starting to come in. At the time of posting a little over 2/3rds of the precincts have reported. You can track the most current results at the Nevada GOP Caucus homepage. Mitt Romney has a commanding lead, and will win the Nevada caucus. The real question is who will garner second place? Ron Paul, at the moment, is beating John McCain for the second place spot.

If Ron Paul gets second place in the Nevada Caucus it will change the race as we know it. No longer will he be an obscure candidate, and would have to receive a fair amount of media reporting. Rudy Giuliani’s electoral strategy has failed, and with no money coming in he will be forced to exit the race. Ron Paul currently is only a few votes ahead of John McCain, but it looks like his lead could be growing. Fred Thompson looks like he will be forced out of this race, reportedly he will endorse John McCain.

Giuliani might hold in until Florida, which now looks like he is poised to loose. Mike Huckabee needs a crucial win in South Carolina in order to stay in the rankings. Huckabee’s campaign is still in desperate need of money and cannot compete come Feb 5th without it. John McCain’s public financing looks like it has paid off, but will it hinder him in the upcoming months? Nobody really knows for certain, but spending limits could poise a problem for the McCain campaign.

Awe ‘ra best frae Bonnie Scotland.

Go get them Ron-The world NEEDS a HERO desperately.

  3. I have a feeling the media will downplay it that it was only a couple of thousand votes between huckabee, thompson and paul and that mccain was tied..so it’s not a big deal. They will still portray him as the fringe candidate. I hope I’m wrong, but that is how I see it going.

  4. ‘Just came back from the NV caucus, where my husband and I talked to a lot of people about Ron Paul and ran as delegates in our precinct. It was more challenging than we expected — due to the large number of Mitt-wits on the scene. They are generally an audacious, unfriendly, judgmental and narrow-minded group. In any event, the numbers are looking good. We’ve got to keep getting the message out: Vote Ron Paul, and reclaim the libery that so many of our brave American men and women have paid for so dearly and fought for with their blood and with their lives.

  5. It’s disturbing so many would vote for Romney.

They call Paul’s people fanatics but those Mormons really are a cult bunch, they probably relocated from Utah to vote there.

  6. Ron Paul deserves coverage ,but instead they’ll cover the that radical fringe candidate Giuliani .

  7. hmmmm, I guess Nevada does not use the hackable Diebold voting machines like the previous states have use, interesting? RONPAUL4PREZ08

  8. All the other canidates are doing is walking the walk and NOT talking the talk, as of Ron Paul, he is Walking the walk and talking the talk.
    He’s my John Wyane!!
A Vote For Ron , Is A Vote For YOU!, So Vote Ron Paul!

  9. The Nevada caucus used a hand-written, paper “straw-poll” count of voters only AFTER delegates were elected. In our precinct, for example, even though Romney came in first in the straw poll, 5 out of the 7 delegates elected are pro Ron Paul. The real numbers have yet to be known.

Next we go to the County caucus (in February), then to the State caucus (in April). Romney may have won the straw poll today, but he didn’t necessarily win the majority of delegates. If all goes well, the final tally of delegates nationwide will not be known and accounted for until the National Convention. Then watch out for Ron Paul cuz’ that’s where we’re gonna’ win. He who laughs last. . .!!!

  10. I loved the captioned picture a little girl being held by her mom with Mitt in the background, on Anderson Cooper last night, “Waaaaaa, I said I want my mommy, not Romney!”

Go Ron Paul! But the media will still ignore him.

  11. Ron Paul did amazing. He really opened alot of eyes today, and thanks goes to those grassroots supporters in Nevada. If it wasn’t for all of us involved in the Ron Paul grassroots movement, his name would barely be heard. The main media networks try to mention him as least as possible. But a 2nd place finish, that is hard to ignore.

Still Fox continues to amaze by not mentioning Ron Paul’s stunning 2nd place finish.

The Revolution of the new millenium is well under way! Ron Paul 2008!

  12. I attended a Republican Caucus in Reno, Nevada this morning. In my precint, there were ten delegates to the Washoe County Republican Convention to be elected. Ron Paul supporters won 4 of the ten Delegate spots, the remaining 6 went to Mitt Romney supporters. It essentialy was a contest between Ron Paul and Mitt Romney. After Delegates were voted upon, evryone was given a chance to speak for their favorite candidate. One man spoke up for Romney, another spoke well for Ron Paul, and a third spoke for Mike Huckabee, no one spoke up for any other candidate.I’m pretty sure most if not all of Romney’s supporters were LDS(Mormon). They were well organized, many acted as if they knew each other to some degree. By contrast Ron Paul supporters seemed of more varied backround, just by appearance. The straw poll was conducted on paper ballots at the end of the caucus, and in my precinct, I would guess Ron Paul got at LEAST 35 to 40 percent. So later in the day at work, CNN was on in the break room, showing Ron Paul got 13% statewide in the straw poll. That’s sure not what I saw firsthand (in my precinct).I shook my head when I saw that CNN report… Congressman Paul did very well today in my precinct. If not for the Mormon Machine (that’s what it looked and felt like)RP would have cleaned house!! Let’s all do all we can to support the cause of Freedom– Ron Paul ‘08!!

  13. My girlfriend, my daughter, eight of my friends and myself all held GOP Volunteer precinct captain and secretary positions at different precints and everyone of us were elected precinct delegates. We’re burrowing into the system like termites and we’ll eat away at the establishment until we get to the foundation…our Constitution…then and only then can we rebuild Principles for a New American Century. In Northern Nevada, we’ve been placing Ron Paul signs for months…ironically I didn’t see one Mitt Romney sign until the day of the caucus. I’ve wondered, where did all these quiet and stealthy Romniacs come from. Didn’t get a phone call at home for Romney, neither literature, no canvassers for Romney either. However, I found them to be older, complaining and not very ascertive. My impression is they showed up to vote in the Presidential Preference Poll and go home…I don’t think very many we’re interested in actually getting involved in the system. Now it’s California and Floridas turn. Focus on our objective, lift up your heads, stiffen your lip and charge in. We’ll all meet at the GOP National Convention. Ron Paul Rocks 2008.
