Our Founding Fathers Must be Rolling Around in Their Graves

This July 4th while I was watching the fireworks go off, I started thinking, what the heck happened to our freedom. No longer are we the proud nation we once were. We’re ashamed of our politicians, ashamed of our policies and ashamed of our political system we once highly regarded. It seems nobody anymore has the ideals the Founding Fathers laid out in front of us. They set us on the right path to freedom and serenity, yet it seems we have blown it.

Everybody is to blame… You can point fingers at the conservatives, the liberals, the scholars, the corporations, the media, parents, and the politicians. Some people even put all the blame on President Bush. How can some so naively blame one individual or entity on the downfall of America?

“We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” –Thomas Jefferson

The pursuit of happiness can mean many things to many people. Happiness to some means the “American Dream”: having a wife, kids, a nice house with a picket fence, and most importantly the trusty dog. I like to think that Jefferson meant something that was much simpler than that. The pursuit of happiness just means to be free enough so you can do what you want with your life. You cannot be happy if somebody tells you where to take your life. The idea that a person can live how he wants and pursue what he wants is an ideal I think Thomas Jefferson held close. “A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor and bread it has earned — this is the sum of good government.” Thomas Jefferson.

History proves that if you control somebody’s life long enough they end up fighting back. Just like a kid being sequestered by his parents in high school and rebelling against their wishes, people will rise up against their government if they are controlled for too long. Luckily our government was set up specifically so that the government would fear the people. Our government was set up almost perfectly. The amount of rights given to use in the bill of rights, keeps us at ease. As long as the government does what they are supposed to and does not tax us out of existence the number of radical voices is relatively low.

Rasmussen Reports that 41% of American’s agree with me when I say that the U.S. lacks Liberty and Justice For All. Over half of American’s believe we as a country are on a worse track now then the one we were on before September 11, 2001.

When asked, most American’s really feel that the founding fathers had it right when the outlined the Constitution. In fact 59% of voters say Constitution is Just Fine, while 39% Say it Doesn’t Restrict Government Enough. Two-Fifths of American’s feel that the Government is the one that needs more regulation. Instead of hearing our call, the government insists on taking more and more power away from the people.

The Patriot Act signaled the end all of our individual rights. We will never get what was taken from us back. If you look at the definition of a terrorist defined in the Patriot Act, just about anybody who voices opposition against our government and actively encourages a way to fix it, is considered a terrorist. Somebody who nails something to a “government” belonging… is considered a terrorist by the patriot act.

I only call it the patriot act, because the fact that it is called the patriot act proves the whole point about government propaganda and fear mongering.

Congress was much criticized for signing for the insertion of the initial patriot act without reading it. So they must have read it before signing it in FOREVER, correct? Can we be mad at them yet?

The whole system needs to be changed. We do not need to rise up and fight the government… we wouldn’t have our guns anyway. We need to do things the right way, and get actively involved in politics.

I think the best thing that could have happened to this country was a President like Bush. When people get so mad at something, they start to think about it. Is this just? Does this even make since? The checks and balances have gone away from our government, and we need to put them back in place. Who better to check the government than the American people?

Because so many feel disenfranchised by our government, more and more are getting involved in politics. Some of these people are naïve, yes, but that is ok. The more people we have actively campaigning for something, the more people who are actively campaigning for something else. How else can we as a nation get what we want? The government will start to realize that there are checks and balances to worry about. Through the creation of the internet, no longer can anything hold the people back. The only thing we really need to worry about is what was set in place to “protect us”, the Patriot Act…

The more you actively protest the way the government it is, the more chance you have of actually be considered a terrorist by the U.S. government. This is precisely the reason why we need to protest and question the government. Gladly add my name to the more than 1,000,000 names that have already been added to the terror watch list.

If we would just look at what the Founding Fathers told us before we give away our rights, (finish the sentence). The original patriot act allowed the government to check our library records, as well as get our records of purchases from bookstores.

Through knowledge comes strength. “Enlighten the people generally, and tyranny and oppressions of body and mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day.”
