The Danger Of The Independent Voter

There are two types of people who follow politics regularly and know it through and through.

The first group sees the potential and lead long and prosperous careers as politicians, journalist/pundits, behind the scene people, etc.

The second group of people sees the first group as a bunch of crooks and avoids them like plague that they are. This second group proudly calls themselves registered independents and they are the reason why the first group gets away with corruption.

Many of the pundits from every political stripe claim to be “registered independents.” On the surface it may sound like a ploy for them to come off sounding as if they are beholden to no one but it is more sinister than that. The biggest damage they inflict on to the political scene is to encourage their listeners (the population that really know what’s happening) to show their disgust for the system by registering as independents as well.

And this is why each presidential election we have a choice between a corporate fascist who poses as a socialist vs a corporate fascist who poses as a conservative. Let’s see how this works.

Americans have it so backwards as far as the importance of the elections (as in primaries vs general). Most “independents” decide to sit out of the primaries when they listen to pundits make the pronouncement that “honest politician (fill in the blank) has no chance of being elected.” …Even though it is 1 year before the primary. This keeps the hard core conservative and the hardcore progressive from even joining the two major parties. This allows the party hacks to nominate whoever they want. Finally when the general election comes, the “independent” blindly votes for the lesser of two evils (still an evil), stays home, or joins the 5% who vote third party.

This needs to stop! NOW!!!

I won’t pretend I’m non-partisan for a façade open mindedness. I’m a Ron Paul Republican. What I’d like to see is a large number of true “independent conservatives” re-take the Republican Party. Let’s get all of the Tancredo, Hunter, Paul, Huckabee, and Thompson supporters who watched from the distance to work together in the party apparatus. Let’s take over the chairmanships, appoint our own delegates, and let’s win back conservatism. Let’s become the mainstream in the party itself.

I encourage the “independent progressive” to do the same to the Democratic Party. Get an honest man like Kucinich elected, and (although I disagree with him a lot) I would proudly vote for an honest socialist over a dishonest conservative steeped in a collusion of government corporatism. At least having an honest politician running will inspire men and women in both parties stand for principle, and bring out true debate rather than the soap opera we have now for political races.

I know this sounds like a pipe dream but this system has degraded to this point over many years. It will take a few to win it back.

From the purchase of overpriced land from political cronies, to the sale ofthe personal residency of a city commissioner to the city by over twice its just value, to the financing of personal hobbies and indulgences of tycoons at taxpayer expense, Daytona Beach has turned into Capone’s Chicago.

The end result is a city in despair, high unemployment, low morale, rampant crime, homeless roaming the streets and an overworked police force that can’t keep up.
