Why the Debate Should Go On

M and OBy this evening, there is a chance that there will be an agreement on the bailout plan for Wall Street. But this is only the first step, a step that was taken not because anyone wanted to, but because we had to.

The issue of the collapse of Wall Street will not end with this agreement. It will continue on into the next administration and even beyond. Depending on the terms, and it will not be the way the administration first proposed, the next President and his advisors and cabinet as well as the next Congress and Senate will have to do a lot of follow through. The agreement will have to be monitored, further agreements made with private industry that will compliment the agreement and those who caused the mess, if they did anything wrong, must be brought to trial and pay up big time.

That is one reason why we need the debate to go on. We need to hear from both candidates not only what they plan to do but how they plan to do it. And the debate is the best way to get their message across.

John McCain stated that he would not go to the debate if there was no agreement reached before. He instead suggested that the Vice Presidential debate be canceled and replaced with one between himself and Barack Obama. A replacement debate so to speak. Well, that is the only Vice Presidential debate that is scheduled and we need to hear from both of them as well. So far, Joe Biden has been meeting with the press, going out on his own. True, some of the things he has said have done more harm than good, but looking past his missteps, he is stating his believes, stating what he will do. We have yet to hear much if anything from Sarah Palin. The debate between the two of them would shed a lot of light on the ones who want to be second in command.

There has been controversy over exactly what John McCain’s motives were for wanting to cancel, or postpone the debate. He stated that he wanted instead to go to Washington to help with negotiating the agreement. Well, it seems we have an agreement, with out any input from either one of the candidates. They will have a meeting with the President at which the agreement will be presented, so there is no reason for the debate to be canceled. Now if McCain still insists on not going, it will add credence to the belief that this was a political move, or he is just not up to debating Obama.

  1. John McCain has stated that his priority is making sure to bring a conservative aspect and taxpayer protection to the “rescue plan” as its now being called. His reasoning for postponing the debate is to focus on this legislation as the negotiations continue, because it surely wont be finalized by tomorrow evening. You cant just show up in Washington and talk for an hour and think everything is okay. The Congress spent more time prosecuting baseball players for steroids than they have spent on this bill. Obama thinks he’s done his duty by showing up and talking to President Bush, but did he even contribute to the conversation, or the plan? At this point, I havent heard or seen anything showing that he has. He is too much of a pompus asshole who cares only about his campaign and himself to do what is right, and that is to help with the passage of this legislation so it BENEFITS the country and doesnt push us further towards pure communism and lose TRILLIONS of taxpayer dollars. But then again, that is what Obama wants to see. History has proven that Democrats thrive in low points. Just look at FDR.

The debate is completely trivial at this point, and Obama-ites are trying to cling to it saying that it shows McCain is scared? On the contrary, I think it shows Obama is scared to actually work with Congress to get ANYTHING done and tie his name to a single piece of legislation, which history shows he has yet to do. While I think that SOMETHING should go on tomorrow night since Ole Miss has prepared and spent millions of dollars on this event, I dont think it reflects any negative light on McCain if he doesnt show up. His campaign, however, has said it is still his intention to attend unless matters are still going on in Washington.

You dont spend $700 billion instantly without heavy heavy thought and negotiations to include EVERY viewpoint and protection humanly possible. I’m dissappointed that Bernanke and Paulson are telling everybody this has to happen overnight or the economy will collapse, which is just untrue. And Obama is just pushing that rush rush mentality so he can get more TV time because its like crack for him.

I say have the VP debate tomorrow night and put McCain and Obama on in the VP debates current slot. And have the 10 Town Hall Meetings McCain has been asking for to show he’s not afraid, and that Obama cant do jack without a teleprompter. If I were McCain, I’d tell Obama to shut his damn mouth and let McCain do his job, since Obama cant seem to do his. And then tell him to bring it on with the debates ones this legislation is over with.

  2. Shaun,
It appears to be a publicity stunt, 100%.

    This is him getting busy!

But I really do like your idea of the VP debate…. I am afraid this is a ploy to get McCain Palin… Out of the VP debate. 100 bucks says that McCain will try to “take over” the VP debate, and make it himself vs Obama.

  3. Well of course he’s going to be doing rounds with networks, as is Obama. Just because he’s “suspending” campaigning doesnt mean that the public isnt still watching them under a microscope. However, his intent in going to Washington is to do what he is known for doing, and that is to get with Congress and make sure all viewpoints are expressed in this legislation…aka “reaching across the aisle”. Which, I commend him for and fault him for at times as well.

And I think he’s just trying to do the job that he is currently getting paid for, and thats be a U.S. Senator, which Obama doesnt know how to do. All Obama did was stand on his podium behind his Change sign and bitch that this wasnt the right thing to do until he got called out by Bush to get out there to Washington. Obama didnt contribute anything to this bill except try to sneak in ANOTHER $100 million for the group he used to “community organize” for. So there he goes, trying to inject his earmark spending into a bill that has nothing to do with community organizing and has been involved in voter scandals and corruptions in the past. Really shows his character, doesnt it? He brought nothing to the table for the subject of this legislation.

And I guess you owe me $100…debate is still on and I hope McCain tears Obama a new one :-D
