Ron Paul – More and More Independent
Ron Paul is continuing to be a thorn in John McCain’s side, even months after he suspended his run for the White House. As we have said before, he continues to get a great deal of support – up to 25% in some polls and that number of voters, mostly Republicans, not supporting McCain can be a big difference in the end result. Now Ron Paul, who has not been made to feel that he would be welcome at the Republican convention, is going to hold his own convention and voters are very interested.
There is nothing the Republican Party wants more than party unity, but they have a strange way of going about it. For instance, Ron Paul and his supporters were made to feel less than welcome at the local conventions like Nevada As a matter of fact, the only local convention where Ron Paul and his supporters were welcome was Montana All he wanted was to be allowed to speak at the National Convention, to get his point across and hopefully get some of his agenda on the national platform.
When it became obvious that that was not going to happen, he found a way to get the attention he needs – convene his own convention – on the second night of the Republican Convention. How is he doing? So far they have sold close to 8,000 tickets. They are not expensive, $17.76. Talk about getting your message across. Think for a minute. If there are 8,000 – probably more by convention time – who are able to make it to Ron Paul’s convention, how many more are there who cannot go and wish they could. A lot more than the 8,000 or so who will be there, that is for sure.
With guests like Jesse Ventura, Barry Goldwater Jr., Rockie Lynne and Aimee Allen, the Ron Paul convention could very well get as much attention as the Republican one. With John McCain being perceived to be more to the middle than to the right, it is going to be hard enough for him to win over a majority of the Republican conservatives. With so many of the most note worthy conservatives opting to attend the Ron Paul convention, John McCain’s job will be even harder.
Just who will these dedicated Ron Paul supporters end up voting for in November? Barack Obama? Not likely. Most states do not count write ins, so most Ron Paul supporters may support Bob Barr. It will be very interesting to see just how Bob Barr does in November. He could very will get more votes than anyone thinks he will.
Comment by Eric Rowe on 3 August 2008:
Without a doubt, a lot of Ron Paul supporters have decided to back Barr, perhaps even a plurality. But it would be a mistake to mention him as the only third party candidate drawing them. Chuck Baldwin was a staunch RP supporter during the primaries (Barr was not), and is running on a platform identical to Paul’s (again, Barr is not), as the nominee of the Constitution Party. Many Paul supporters have taken notice and are following the same principles-before-pragmatism ideals that led them to Paul in the first place by now supporting Baldwin.
Comment by Brian on 3 August 2008:
McCain is a thorn in the GOP’s side, not Paul a thorn in McCain’s.
Comment by jen on 3 August 2008:
I will cast a vote for Baldwin If I can, but I read that he will not be on the ticket in some states.
Comment by PainfullyAware on 3 August 2008:
There are a lot of people alienated by “The System” and they have found a voice in Ron Paul.
I will be surprised if the main media does anything less than Snark when they have to report the Ron Paul event.
They have repeatedly shown no ability to be impartial and in some cases have enacted direct censorship against him.
There Are Very Dark Times Ahead For America. Thank goodness that some were able to be re-educated about what America is supposed to be.
Remember the voice in the wilderness and lament when the darkness becomes apparent to even the least perceptive.
Comment by Valeria on 3 August 2008:
Well now we’ve gone and done it! We have trusted the media and govt to the point of now return. As one of these next two candidates get ready to take the rest of your soveriegntry, your freedom, and your liberties, just remember that it is YOU who has let the country come to this. I think john McCain is the safer of the two but I am not sure although I did not find in my research things of this nature:
Thanks for coming. My name is Cliff Kincaid. I’m President of America’s
Survival, usasurvival.org. Of Senator Barack Obama’s contacts and associations with
anti-American political figures, none is more controversial than Frank Marshall Davis.
He was a writer and a poet identified as a member of the Communist Party USA by
several sources, including sources sympathetic to him.
Obama and Frank Marshall
Davis met in Hawaii at a time when the young Obama was in need of a black role model
and a mentor. Obama’s relationship with Davis, including his subsequent associations
with radicals, socialists, and communist figures in Chicago, should be investigated for
the benefit of promoting the public’s right to know and that is why we have called this
news briefing today.
We believe that any public figure with links to foreign and hostile interests should be
asked to explain those associations. In the case of Obama, a relatively new figure on
the national scene, we submit the facts suggest that he would have serious difficulty
getting a security clearance in the United States Government. An FBI background
check was once used to examine one’s character, loyalty to the United States, and
associations. You can finish reading up on obama’s character on this site – http://www.usasurvival.org/obama.briefing.html
Meanwhile in the other corner you have Senator John McCain.
Not much of choice and I am not seeing either one of them as a true patriot.
Neither one of them know anything about economics. This country is at high risk of losing everything to countries like china for one.
Well we are in and we have to live with it so we either start over and take our country back or we live the way other countries do and let the govt tell us how to live our lives.
Which one are you voting for?
Comment by vbfree on 3 August 2008:
I rarely see Barr’s name in print outside the context of a Ron Paul story. His supporters barely leave a ripple in blogs or comments below online MSM stories.
Bob Barr is no Ron Paul, and the ink’s still wet on his libertarian credentials. My guess is that even confirmed Libertarian will be ignoring him in droves.
Baldwin is a blatant religionist.
McKinney and Nader are socialists.
So that leaves . . . Nobody for President.
I’ll probably vote in my senate and house races and leave the top spot(s) blank.
Comment by Randy on 3 August 2008:
My vote will go to Chuck Baldwin. I cant wait to see the pundits faces when they fiqure out that Juan McWar lost this race because conservatives gave their votes to Barr or Baldwin. Us Ron Paul folks will have the last laugh on this. The GOP has to crash and burn to be rebuilt, it is beyond reform.
Comment by vbfree on 3 August 2008:
Has Barr even raised $1M yet?
I don’t think so.
Comment by freespeech on 3 August 2008:
Ron Paul WILL be nominated as soon as the convention goes to the second round of voting because mr. mccain will not get the required minimum votes in round 1!!
Yes!! It is true- mr. mccain will not get the required minimum votes at the convention which is where a presidential candidate is ACTUALLY nominated and when the voting goes to the second round, Ron Paul WILL be nominated as the republican candidate for President of the United States of America!! That is the Truth if I ever knew there to be a truth and I know this because I believe it deep down with every intention and with great focus!! I know many who will be voting at the convention and I know that this WILL be the case- not just because I believe it, but because it will happen, in fact, it has already happened and I am so thrilled to be able to vote for President Ron Paul, my President in 2008- the ONLY real and honest MAN that will be elected President in 2008! Now, don’t ya’ll feel better!! it is true if it is true to you!! President Ron Paul President Ron Paul President Ron Paul President Ron Paul
~peace
Comment by Andrew Panken on 3 August 2008:
In response to Valeria, there’s so much focus on the “evils” of Obama, instead of the great ideas of McCain. Of course McCain doesn’t have any great ideas, so the conservative media has to focus on every little scrap of perceived “evil”, whether it is evil or not. Why not just get behind a real candidate for small government such as Bob Barr or even Chuck Baldwin. When will the charad stop, of voting for the lesser of two evils, instead of the best candidate. Vote for the best candidate, not one of the candidates annointed by the media to win.
Comment by libertyinmo on 3 August 2008:
We supported Ron Paul in our state. If by some chance Ron Paul ends up the Republican nominee, doubtful, our family will vote for him. If not, Chuck Baldwin is on the ballot in this state and he will be our second choice. There is NO WAY that we would ever vote for John McCain!!!
Comment by TruthisTreason on 3 August 2008:
McCain and Obama are the same. Ron Paul was “change”.
Comment by rp08 on 3 August 2008:
Whoa Freespeech…calm down…sounds like you need another hit of whatever it is you want rp to stop the feds from breaking your door in for…..
Comment by RaferJanders on 3 August 2008:
Yes I will still vote for the only honest man in Government, I will take a bus or hitchike to go to Ron’s little party, I would never vote for McShame being a life long Republican, and a straight up believer in the Constitution and the all the things that my Grandfather fought for in the second world war, and my fathers service in Vietnam even though he did not come back and my service in the US Army, Just say no to these two swine that the media thinks represent America and it’s people.
Comment by Jane on 4 August 2008:
Dr. Ron Paul has earned my respect. I believe in miracles and Dr. Paul is what America NEEDS right now. He is a scholar of Austrian economics and knows exactly where our country is currently headed economically. And he has good ideas to help us get out of it when the catastrophe hits. No other candidate is qualified at this particular time.
Comment by Habit on 4 August 2008:
This Ron Paul supporter is voting for Ron Paul! I do not support McCain, Obama, OR Bob Barr. Get it?
Comment by Rafik on 4 August 2008:
I will be writing-in Dr. Paul (definitely not McBush II)… or voting his chosen candidate (Baldwin/Barr/else) if he ever selects one. I don’t give a crap about the libertarian or the constitution parties… I care about the ideas, and the consistency of the politician… and no-one but Paul ever earned that much respect from me… I am not just a voter, I am a “supporter”, who will be financially and personally helping this movement regardless of how successful it is in getting its message to the masses.
Comment by Isaac on 5 August 2008:
Barr is ex-CIA (1970-1978, http://bioguide.congress.gov/scripts/biodisplay.pl?index=B000169) so I cannot vote for him. I can’t vote for someone I don’t trust. I’m looking inot Baldwin, but have 98% made up my mind that unless Ron endorses Chuck, I will write in Ron Paul for president in Nov. Paulers unite! The R3volution is nigh!
Comment by Kevin Tracy on 5 August 2008:
I personally hope Ron Paul endorses Bob Barr at the convention and that Bob Barr makes a surprise appearance.
That would be HUGE publicity.
Republicans who want to unite behind McCain are either crazy, stupid, or corrupt as hell.
Comment by Prine on 8 August 2008:
Ron Paul 2008!Ron Paul 2008!
Ron Paul 2008!Ron Paul 2008!
Ron Paul 2008!Ron Paul 2008!
Ron Paul 2008!Ron Paul 2008!
But we’re all doomed.
Comment by Robert Simon on 25 August 2008:
It is VITAL that Ron Paul address the Presidential question at his Mini-Convention….A vote for Barr or Baldwin is the best tactically….If McCain wins,it shows exactly how phony alleged”conservatives”are….and their will be little hope if any that the GOP will change in our lifetime….Vote for President in November, but make it a vote that will COUNT and be NOTICED!
