Trump welcomes tech bosses to awkward-looking White House meeting

Donald Trump held a meeting of his American Technology Council the on Monday night in the White House. This summit looked like a very awkward event, which was offered as another photo-op for Trump.

The meeting in the White House on Monday showed the press that President of the US is ready to cooperate with the tech giants for making the American government more efficient. But everyone understood it as just another PR reason for Trump’s office.

The invited tech executives, which came to the meeting, were Apple boss Tim Cook, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos attended. Donald Trump placed himself between Cook and Nadella who were known as the critics of the President’s policies, in particular, his travel ban and his recent act – withdrawal from the Paris climate change agreement.

Tim Cook, who reportedly raised encryption and visa issues, was seated next to Kushner while Ivanka also was presented at the meeting. The president’s son in law has been asked by Trump to find ways of boosting innovation in the public sector.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, who also owns the Washington Post, has had his own run-ins with Trump. During his campaign, Trump threatened an antitrust investigation into Amazon, and repeatedly criticised the Post’s “fake news”.

Donal Trump cited estimates that the government could save up to $1 trillion over 10 years by making government computer systems more efficient. Probably, this figure’s revealing was the real aim of the meeting in White House on Monday – President is ready to make America great again.
