Mike Huckabee’s bump after Iowa straw poll

“…all those people who said well we are not sure that you are viable so we are not going to contribute … unless we see some traction… we started calling them and saying we’ve got the traction, where’s the check?… We got a 1,000 new donors from Saturday night to Tuesday, we raised more money online in about 2 days … than we had raised almost in the previous 4 weeks… There is an alternative… they have a candidate that has actually has the chance to win.” - Mike Huckabee, 8/13/07 on Fox News

Mike Huckabee is enjoying a great fundraising boost after the straw poll. He has been a very popular candidate but, people need polls to back them up in order to vote for him. After seeing the Iowa results it all of the sudden makes Huckabee a viable candidate.  The republican party has been very mad at their current “top” choices. Candidates need news in order to gain momentum… We all saw how fast Ron Paul took off after the debates. Huckabee being a more traditional republican candidate needed more to get going. This may do it… If Huckabee can’t hold this surge and expand it he may as well drop out. He has a hard time getting people to give money. I am not sure why he very much appeals to the religious right, and they love to give money away.  Well maybe they prefer jumping on the bandwagon, hopefully for Huckabee this bandwagon is big enough to attract. If Huckabee gets enough people to donate he can compete with Mitt Romney in Iowa. Something tells me that Huckabee appeals to Iowans more than Mitt the Mormon.
