Young Americans for Liberty look to play key political role in 2010 mid-term elections

Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) joined Congresswoman Michelle Bachman for a presentation last Friday in Minnesota. The rapidly growing sponsor of the event, the Young Americans for Liberty, was cast into the spotlight as the organization that was able to bring these two different factions of the Republican Party together under one roof.

Young Americans for Liberty (Y4L) is a continuation of Students For Ron Paul, which itself had 500 chapters in all 50 states during the 2008 Presidential Campaign. The organization was formed to bring together Liberty loving youth on campuses and even a few high schools throughout the United States. There are currently over 200 chapters in the United States. And the numbers seem is increasing every week.

What the nation witnessed last week in Pittsburgh should at the very least energize the campuses around the country. They should be able to see how the authorities in this nation see them, as nothing more than an annoyance and hinderence in carrying out their military and monetary agendas.

Pittsburgh University students were attacked by police with tear gas canisters while other protestors got thrown from their bikes, beaten for talking, tear gassed for being present, made to vomit from tear gas canisters that also seared their skin.

Although the situation at first glance can seem overwhelming and helpless, in reality the university students of this nation hold as a collective group and as individuals overwhelming power to disrupt business as usual in Washington. They deserve to have a prevalent voice in the process when it comes to the issue of the U.S. military operations overseas, because it is their generation that has the most skin in the game at this point. And they also deserve a voice in the out of control spending in Washington because it is their generation that will have to deal with a destroyed dollar and an insurmountable national debt.

Y4L has the opportunity to be the conservative anti-war voice on campuses across the country, as it seems the anti-war left has been quieted by the campaign promises of President Obama. Although all signs point to Obama increasing troop presence in Afghanistan against the will of the majority of American citizens.

A youth based movement that gains national attention would add another dimension to the already existing tea party movement and would be a well of resources and volunteers for Liberty candidates in the coming midterm elections.

The Y4L organization has its own publication with contributions from people in the Liberty movement such as Adam Kokesh and interviews with Judge Napolitano and Ron Paul.

  1. I know Ron Paul started the “tea party movement” but hasn’t it been taken over by the Krystol Neocons? Why would any anti-war Y4L folks want to “add another dimension” to them? The economy has been driven into the ground more by a vocal minority of warmongers rather than the clear majority of liberals we have in this country. At least we get some of the money back we give away domestically; the money we give away internationally conspires to compete with us.

  2. Wow! Where have the original, libertarian-leaning Democrats from Jefferson to Cleveland gone? All that seems to be left are Marxists who want to bring America back into the Old World fold, where poverty and tyranny are the custom.
