A court in Egypt sentenced a Ukrainian woman to life imprisonment.

An Egyptian court sentenced 29-year-old Ukrainian citizen Lyudmila Balakina to life imprisonment and a fine for trying to import about 4 kilograms of cocaine into the country.

The Cairo Criminal Court “sentenced a Ukrainian citizen to life imprisonment and a fine of 100,000 Egyptian pounds (over $3,600) for attempting to smuggle about 4 kilograms of cocaine into the country.”

The customs service found the drug in the defendant’s bag during an inspection at the Cairo airport. During the investigation, she admitted that she received drugs from an Egyptian living abroad, who paid her 2.5 thousand dollars for their transportation. The investigation was never able to find out to whom the drug was sent.
