A strike at steel mills in the northwest of Germany is scheduled for June 13

The strike of steelworkers in the north-west of Germany will take place on Monday, June 13, according to the profile trade union IG Metall.

The decision was taken following another fruitless discussion in the framework of a tariff dispute between IG Metall and representatives of enterprises. The trade union demands an increase in wages by 8.2 percent, a counter offer from employers – 4.7 percent within 21 months.

The strike will spread to all companies in the region – North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony and Bremen. The steel industry employs about 68,000 people, according to IG Metall.
