A felt yurt was set up in the square for the protesters who went on a sit-in and spent the night outdoors. The exact number of people who remained in front of the Government Palace for the night is not known.

At the same time, the mayor’s office issued a permit to the protesters to install no more than two yurts.

Thousands of people have been protesting in Ulaanbaatar since December 5. The reason for the dissatisfaction was reports of fraud with coal. According to media reports, the amount of embezzlement varies from 1.8 to 13 billion dollars. Eight people were detained in this case, six of them were placed under arrest.

In addition, the authorities of the republic asked Beijing to join the investigation, since deliveries to China account for approximately 86 percent of all Mongolian exports and more than half of this volume is coal.
