Abu Dhabi linked the visit of the President of the United Arab Emirates to Russia with the crisis in Ukraine.

The visit of the President of the United Arab Emirates Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Russia is aimed at “helping to achieve effective political solutions” to the crisis in Ukraine, the UAE Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Earlier, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that on Tuesday, Vladimir Putin would hold talks in St. Petersburg with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. His visit to Russia will be the first since his appointment as president in May.

“Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s visit to Russia tomorrow will take place as part of the UAE’s ongoing commitment to achieving security and stability in the region and the world, to strengthen fruitful and constructive cooperation with regional and international forces, to engage with all parties involved in the crisis in Ukraine to help achieve effective political decisions,” the statement says.


The Foreign Ministry noted that the UAE is “fully prepared to support efforts aimed at creating a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine“, calling for diplomacy, dialogue and respect for the foundations and principles of international law.
