Annual inflation in Britain hit a record for the last 40 years

Annual inflation in the UK in June accelerated to a record 9.4% since 1982 from 9.1% a month earlier, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

According to the ONS, the figure was the highest since February 1982, when inflation was 10.2%. Consumer prices rose 0.8% in June after rising 0.7% in May.


Analysts polled by the DailyFx portal expected annual inflation at 9.3%, monthly – at 0.7%.

At the same time, the CPIH index (inflation, taking into account the costs of homeowners for housing maintenance) amounted to 8.2% after 7.9% a month earlier. In June, prices for this index rose by 0.7% after 0.6% in May.
