At least seven people were killed by tornadoes in Mississippi.

At least seven people died as a result of a tornado that hit the US state of Mississippi, ABC News reports, citing a local medical examiner.

Sharkey County Medical Examiner Angelia Easton said at least seven people were killed by the tornado. The age of the dead is not known at this time.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said search and rescue efforts are underway in Sharkey and Humphreys counties. In addition, the agency has issued a number of tornado warnings in counties across the state.
