Belgrade does not want to join NATO, Serbian minister says

The Serbian authorities on the path of integration into the EU do not plan to join NATO and support sanctions against Russia, Minister for Innovation and Technological Development Nenad Popovich said during a visit to Russia.

Popovich is in Russia, where on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) he met with Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov. Both are co-chairs of the intergovernmental committee on economic cooperation between the two states.

“The trade turnover between Serbia and Russia last year amounted to about 2.8 billion dollars, which represented an increase of 13.1% compared to 2020. Exports from Serbia to the Russian Federation amounted to about 1 billion dollars, and imports from Russia to Serbia reached 1, 8 billion. This development of cooperation has led to the fact that Russia has become the fourth largest foreign trade partner of Serbia,” – Popovich said
