US President Joe Biden, on the eve of a face-to-face meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, said that he hopes to establish contacts between the two countries, including on the military front.
During a brief conversation with the White House pool, journalists asked the head of state what exactly he considers as a successful outcome of upcoming contacts with Xi Jinping.
“Returning to a normal course of communication, being able to pick up the phone and talk to each other in a crisis situation. Ensuring that our military can communicate with each other. We are not trying to separate ourselves from China. We are trying to change our relationship for the better,” he said.
The APEC summit is taking place in San Francisco these days.
