Biden instructed Blinken to provide military assistance to Ukraine

US President Joe Biden instructed Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to provide Ukraine with a new tranche of $675 million in defense assistance, according to a memorandum released by the White House press service.

“I authorize the Secretary of State to provide up to $675 million in defense positions and services for the Department of Defense, as well as military education and training to provide assistance to Ukraine,” Biden said in the memo.


On Thursday, the US announced a new $2.8 billion military aid package to Ukraine and neighboring countries, of which $675 million will go to additional weapons for Ukraine and $2.2 billion to “long-term investments to strengthen the security of Ukraine and 18 neighboring countries.” The new package of US military assistance to Ukraine will include ammunition for HIMARS, 105mm howitzers, artillery ammunition, high-speed anti-radar missiles (HARM).
