Biden proposes a ban on the sale of assault weapons

US President Joe Biden, in an address to the Americans, called on Congress to tighten control over the circulation of firearms in the country.

In particular, he proposed to ban the sale of assault weapons and magazines for a large number of cartridges to ordinary citizens.

“Why should ordinary citizens be able to buy assault weapons with 30-round magazines that allow shooters to fire hundreds of bullets in a matter of minutes?” he asked.

If a ban is not possible, the age for buying guns must be raised from 18 to 21, the American leader added.
Biden pointed to a “serious mental health crisis” in the country.

“We have to do something about it,” he urged.

In particular, take steps to protect children from the harm caused by social media.

On May 24, there was a shooting at a school in Uvalda, Texas. The fire was opened by 18-year-old former student Salvador Ramos. He was carrying a pistol and a semi-automatic rifle. Ramos shot dead 19 children and two adults, he died during the arrest.

After that, Biden said he was tired of inaction on the issue of tightening gun laws and called for confronting the gun lobby. The President recalled that in December 2012, when he was Vice President under Barack Obama, shooting was opened at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Since then, there have been more than 900 mass shootings across the country, he said.
