US President Joe Biden during a telephone conversation congratulated Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on his election victory and expressed hope for even closer cooperation with the new Greek government, and also thanked for supporting Ukraine, the press service of the Greek prime minister said.

“Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis recently held a telephone conversation with United States President Joe Biden. The US President congratulated the Prime Minister on his election victory and stressed that he looks forward to even closer cooperation with the new Greek government,” the message says.

Mitsotakis and Biden reaffirmed the close ties between the two countries, as well as their desire to strengthen and deepen the “excellent Greek-American cooperation“, especially in the fields of defense and energy.

“During the conversation, the importance of strategic cooperation between Greece and the United States for stability and security in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region was emphasized. Joe Biden expressed gratitude for the support that Greece has provided to Ukraine from the very beginning, and for its role as a reliable partner and ally in the region” , the press service said.

Meanwhile, unofficial information has appeared in the media that Mitsotakis is planning an official visit to the United States and a meeting with Biden in September. As reported, the visit is being prepared by the new Deputy Foreign Minister, ex-Ambassador of Greece to the US Alexandra Papadopoulou, and the US Ambassador to Athens, George Tsunis, is playing an active role in preparing the trip.
