Biden will sign documents on the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO

US President Joe Biden plans to sign protocols on accession to NATO of Sweden and Finland on August 9.

Biden’s work schedule, which was released by the White House press service, indicates that the US president will make a speech and sign documents on the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO in the afternoon. The ceremony will start at 14:00

Recall that Sweden and Finland, after the start of Russia’s special operation to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine, abandoned their long-term neutrality and declared their desire to join NATO.

In May, these two Scandinavian countries applied to be included in the alliance. Their accession must be supported by all NATO members. So far, 20 out of 30 members of the military bloc have done so.

On August 4, the US Senate approved the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO.
