Blinken expressed US concern about the sentencing of mercenaries in the DPR

The American administration is concerned about the death sentence passed on three mercenaries by the court of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Washington calls on the Russian Federation to respect the norms of humanitarian law. This statement was made on Thursday by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

“We are deeply concerned by reports of a sham ‘trial’ and sentencing of combatants who lawfully served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. We call on Russia and its forces to respect international humanitarian law, including rights and protection, provided to prisoners of war,” the head of the US Foreign Office wrote on Twitter.

A DPR court earlier Thursday sentenced to death two Britons Sean Pinner and Aiden Aslin, as well as Moroccan Saadoun Brahim, on charges of participating in hostilities as part of the Ukrainian armed formations as mercenaries. They participated in the fighting on the side of Ukraine and were taken prisoner in the south-east of the country.
