The British government has abandoned plans to build a new flagship for the British Navy amid cost-cutting measures.

In 2021, Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said that the department intends to order the construction of a new flagship for the British Navy, worth up to 250 million pounds. The flagship was to be the “jewel in the crown” of Britain’s forthcoming National Shipbuilding Strategy and a “floating embassy” to advance Britain’s diplomatic and trade interests in coastal capitals around the world, he said.
