“But what about ours?” The Poles made a scandal over gifts to Ukrainian refugees

The authorities of the Polish city of Ostrow Wielkopolski had to make excuses because of the incident at the celebration of Children’s Day, when one of the firms decided to give gifts to immigrants from Ukraine.

A heated discussion was caused by the post of Mayor Beata Klimek that Techland decided to organize the distribution of sweets on the occasion of the celebration. However, it was not about all children, but exclusively about Ukrainian ones, which caused a wave of indignation among local residents.

“And what will our children get, may I ask?” the locals were outraged.

The mayor of Ostrowa, in turn, reacted to the remarks, stating that the distribution of gifts was organized by a private company, and called for more mercy and sympathy. Some users also supported the head of the city, and one of them said that if parents cannot buy sweets for one of the Polish children, he will be happy to help.

According to the latest data, more than 3.6 million refugees from Ukraine have arrived in Poland since the beginning of the Russian special operation. Some of them go to other countries or return to their homeland, but the majority still remain in the republic. Head of State Andrzej Duda said that Warsaw and Budapest are forced to cope with the flow of migrants without the help of the European Union.
