Canadian authorities have already taken steps to increase oil and gas production and supplies, Trudeau said, but this will not replace the huge volumes of Russian oil and gas that Europe now depends on. In the future, the Prime Minister continued, Western countries will need to abandon hydrocarbons and transfer their economies to alternative energy resources.
