China called on the US to stop interfering under the pretext of democracy.

China calls on the United States to stop interfering in the internal affairs of other countries under the pretext of so-called democracy, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a briefing on Tuesday.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted that Moscow regrets the participation of UN Secretary General António Guterres in the “summit for democracy”, “an unworthy performance” organized by the United States. According to her, the event, similar to the one held in December 2021, is the second attempt by the US administration to convene a conference to form a coalition of so-called “democratic states” with the leading role of Washington itself.

“China has repeatedly stated its position on the so-called” democracy summit “. The United States ignores its own many shortcomings and again holds the so-called” democracy summit “under the banner of supposedly democracy, openly pursuing ideological lines, provoking a division in the world, defiling and trampling spirit of democracy,” Mao Ning said.

She noted that “today’s world needs not to create divisions in the name of democracy and promote a policy of unilateral action, but to strengthen solidarity and cooperation based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, advocating true multilateralism.”

“Today’s world needs not interference in the internal affairs of other countries under the pretext of democracy, but the implementation of real democracy, the rejection of false democracy and the promotion of the democratization of international relations,” the diplomat stressed.

She pointed out that “what the world needs today is not a so-called “summit for democracy” that creates confrontation, but solidarity and cooperation that can really solve the problems facing the international community.”

“We urge the United States to stop pointing at other countries and stop interfering in the internal affairs of other states under the banner of so-called democracy,” Mao Ning added.

The first Democracy Summit, also sponsored by the United States, was held in December 2021. The second summit is scheduled for March 28-30.
