China’s special envoy reminded NATO of the bombing of Yugoslavia without UN Security Council sanctions

NATO bombed Yugoslavia for 78 days without UN Security Council sanctions, recalled China’s special representative for the Korean Peninsula, Liu Xiaoming.

“23 years ago, NATO dropped 420,000 bombs weighing 22,000 tons, including 15 tons of depleted uranium, without sanctions from the UN Security Council,” he wrote on Twitter.

The Yugoslav side estimated that up to 5,700 civilians were killed.

China’s envoy to the UN Zhang Jun said earlier that NATO’s eastward expansion did not make Europe safer, but “sowed the seeds of conflict.”
