Chinese Foreign Ministry says they appreciate Putin’s stance on Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan

China highly appreciates Russian President Vladimir Putin’s remarks that US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan was a carefully planned provocation, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said at a briefing on Wednesday.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in an address to the participants and guests of the X Moscow Conference on International Security, said that Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan was not just a trip of an individual irresponsible politician, but a brazen demonstration of disrespect for the sovereignty of other countries, a carefully planned provocation.

According to him, the United States once again deliberately tried to add fuel to the fire and stir up the situation in the Asia-Pacific region.

“China highly appreciates the position expressed by Russian President Vladimir Putin,” the diplomat said when asked to comment on the Russian leader’s statements.

He also noted that since Pelosi visited Taiwan, more than 170 countries have expressed a fair opinion, reaffirmed their commitment to the “one China” principle, and supported China’s efforts to protect its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“President Putin’s recent remarks that you mentioned are the embodiment of a high level of strategic cooperation between China and Russia, as well as a manifestation of the two countries’ consistent and firm mutual support on issues that affect the fundamental interests of each side,” he said.

Wang Wenbin stressed that China is ready to continue to work together with the international community to jointly uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and peace and stability in the region and the world.
