President of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) Xi Jinping will leave China this week for the first time in more than two years and travel to Central Asia, where he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

It is indicated that the trip abroad will be the first for Jinping since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.


A meeting between Putin and Xi Jinping is planned on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Uzbekistan. The event is scheduled for September 15-16, it will be attended by the heads of 15 states.


Earlier, Putin also announced that a trilateral meeting with the leaders of China and Mongolia would be held within the framework of the SCO.
