Christmas future: smart homes may be haunted by the cyber-ghost

Christmas has an unbelievable future, say programmers. In the new century, smart homes may be haunted by the cyber-ghost, concluded the computer specialists after the analysis of distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks.

The DDoS attacks and the internet of things (IoT) became the signs of the millennium, the DDoS attacks happen where massive volumes of data are thrown at online systems so they can no longer cope with legitimate requests. That’s why the Christmas in the IoT may be haunted by the cyber-ghost, experts say.

The IoT holds great promise, and the idea of the smart home is even greater. BUT. We have the potential to network a whole new generation of smart devices: everything from fridges, kettles and toasters to the systems that heat your home and keep an eye on your pet. The DDos attack can take over the control over these devices remotely. And it can be a real nightmare, indeed.

No one is suggesting that hackers will want to break into your toaster to steal personal data, although some IoT devices will hold data that has value we may not yet understand. Cyber security in the smart home must be at the highest level, it’s obviously.

Merry and safe Christmas!
