Erdogan announced “interesting news” on the gas topic.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said he would announce new “interesting news” on the gas topic to the public on Monday.

Earlier, the Sabah newspaper wrote that Turkey would invest almost $10 billion in a project to extract and transport 540 billion cubic meters of gas from the Sakarya field in the Black Sea. According to plans, the first gas from the field should come to Turkey in 2023.

Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Donmez also reported that the estimated cost of gas discovered in the Black Sea is $400 billion.

“We are working day and night to connect the gas we discovered in the Black Sea to our national system. On Monday, we will share new good, interesting news on this issue with our nation,” Erdogan said, speaking in Erzurum.

The Turkish leader also promised that the government would have “good news” for the people “after the Black Sea gas is put into operation.


One of the main gas suppliers to Turkey (about 44%) is Russia.
