Erdogan confirmed that the presidential elections in Turkey will be held on May 14.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has confirmed that the country’s general elections are scheduled for May 14.

Earlier, the Habertürk TV channel, citing its own sources, reported that amid a series of devastating earthquakes, general elections in Turkey could be postponed for a period of six months to a year. According to the publication, the High Electoral Commission (YSK) will come up with a corresponding initiative at the request of the ruling party. However, presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin has indicated a trend towards a general election in May unless there is a reverse political consensus in the coming days.

“The time is drawing near. Know that the people will do everything necessary on May 14,” Erdogan said during a speech at a party meeting on Wednesday.
