Erdogan said his doors are closed to the US ambassador to Turkey.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan refused further meetings with the US ambassador to Ankara, who had earlier held talks with a single opposition candidate in the May 14 elections, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.

Turkish presidential candidate from seven opposition parties, Kemal Kılıçdaroglu, met with the head of the American diplomatic mission, Jeffrey Flake, at the initiative of the latter, Unal Cevikez, the candidate’s adviser, said earlier.

“Joe Biden’s ambassador is visiting Bai Kemal. Shame on you, think with your head. You are an ambassador. Your interlocutor here is the president. With what face will you stand up after that and ask for a rendezvous with the president? Our doors are closed for him, he can no longer come in. Why? Let him know his place,” Erdogan said.

According to him, the American diplomat “should know his place.”

“Let him know how the ambassador should work. If he does not know this, he will not be able to enter this door,” Erdogan stressed.

Presidential and parliamentary elections in Turkey are scheduled for May 14. The main opponent of the incumbent President Tayyip Erdogan – the only candidate from the “Republican Alliance” – is a nominee from the opposition “People’s Alliance” Kemal Kilicdaroglu. Also running in the elections are Memleket party leader Muharrem Ince and Ata alliance candidate Sinan Ogan.

The results of pre-election research have not yet determined the favorite of the upcoming race, however, experts note that the current electoral process will be the most difficult for the ruling party due to the devastating earthquakes that claimed the lives of more than 50 thousand people, as well as the difficult economic situation in the country.
