Erdogan says Turkey has not received any proposals on the issue of Sweden and Finland in NATO

As the country’s President Rajep Tayyip Erdogan said during a speech in parliament, Turkey had not yet received any specific proposals to work out Ankara’s objections and concerns regarding the entry of Sweden and Finland into the NATO alliance.

“We have openly stated that we oppose the membership of these two countries in NATO because of [the problem of] supporting the terrorist organization PKK and its offshoots. NATO is a security organization, not a terrorist support organization. They protect these terrorist organizations together with the police of Sweden, Finland, Germany, France and the Netherlands,” Erdogan concluded.

He noted Ankara’s lack of confidence in only the statements of representatives of Western countries, which, moreover, are not enshrined in official documents and letters.

Earlier, Erdogan said that Turkey would be ready to approve the entry of Sweden and Finland into NATO if the countries take steps to fulfill the conditions that were previously set by the Turkish side. Otherwise, their efforts will not change Ankara’s position.
