Erdogan says Turkey will not agree to Finland and Sweden joining NATO

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that Ankara would not agree to the entry of Finland and Sweden into NATO after the two countries refused to comply with the republic’s request for the extradition of suspected terrorist organizations.

“There are reports that they will not extradite the terrorists to us. We will not say yes to these two countries joining NATO,” the Turkish president said at a press conference in Ankara following talks with Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebbun.

He advised the delegations from Sweden and Finland not to trouble themselves with trips to the republic in order to convince Ankara to agree to their admission to NATO.

“Even in their parliaments there are supporters of terrorism. Will they come to persuade us? Let them not bother. Firstly, we would not say yes to those who impose sanctions against Turkey to join NATO during this process,” – the Turkish president emphasized.

He added that the North Atlantic Alliance would become “a concentration of terrorists” if Turkey agreed to Finland and Sweden joining it. “We will not give a positive answer to those who imposed sanctions on Turkey to the request to join NATO. In an organization that provides security. Then NATO will cease to be a security organization and become a place where terrorists are concentrated,” the Turkish president is sure .
