Erdogan’s party proposed NATO to make the fight against terrorism the main task of the alliance

The main task for the North Atlantic Alliance should be the fight against terrorism. The press secretary of the ruling Turkish Justice and Development Party (AKP) Omer Celik proposed to change the main course of NATO’s activities.

“NATO is a security organization. The main struggle for NATO should be the fight against terrorism. And you are in direct contact with structures that NATO member countries recognize as terrorist,” said the spokesman for the party, which is chaired by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Earlier, Erdogan said that official Ankara had informed NATO of its intention to say no to the membership of Sweden and Finland in the alliance. He explained that Turkey does not want to make the same mistake twice, referring to the concessions of the Turkish side in foreign policy for the sake of the interests of the countries participating in the alliance.
