Ex-Prime Minister of Italy Conte spoke about the situation in Ukraine.

Ex-Prime Minister of Italy Conte spoke about the situation in Ukraine.

Chairman of the socio-political “Movement 5 Stars” (D5Z), former Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte spoke in favor of resolving the crisis in Ukraine at the negotiating table.

“But the fact is that the negotiating table does not exist. And this does not seem to bother anyone. Whereas I am deeply concerned,” he said in an interview.

According to Conte, the idea that Russian President Vladimir Putin cannot be negotiated is “weak and controversial.”

“If we reasoned this way, there would have been only wars in the history of mankind and never peace. And I shudder to think that the Second World War, the most brutal conflict of our time, ended not at the negotiating table, but with two bombs,” the well-known politician emphasized.

For a long time, Conte, on behalf of D5Z, has been opposed to new arms supplies to Kyiv, as this could lead to an escalation of the conflict, and for a diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian crisis.

On Wednesday, during a vote in the European Parliament on a resolution recognizing Russia as a “state sponsor of terrorism” because of the military operation in Ukraine, all MEPs abstained from D5Z. In this regard, Conte pointed out that such a resolution “does not help to restore dialogue” between the parties concerned.
