Four tourists drowned in a lake after a yacht crash in Italy.

Four people – two women and two men – were killed after the yacht capsized and sank on the Italian lake Lago Maggiore off the coast of the village of Lisanza on Sunday evening.

Earlier it was reported that one man became a victim of this state of emergency, three people were reported missing.


According to local authorities, there were 24 people on board the 16-meter pleasure boat, including a group of tourists who took part in a tour of the lake.

20 people were able to swim to the shore on their own or were taken aboard the boats by rescuers who arrived at the scene of the emergency. Five people were urgently hospitalized.


Employees of the special forces of the fire service and the coast guard, as well as a group of divers, took part in rescuing people on the lake. The search for missing people continued all last night. At a depth of 16 meters, divers managed to find the bodies of three dead.

The cause of the shipwreck was bad weather, which hit northern Lombardy on Sunday evening.
