Gazprom notifies Eni of gas supplies cut by 15%

Gazprom” informed the Italian Eni about the reduction of gas supplies, said a representative of the Italian company.

As of Wednesday, raw material shipments were down 15%.

Eni’s statement also said that Gazprom did not explain the reasons for the decline in supplies. The Italian company noted that it is monitoring the situation.

The volume of Russian natural gas imports to Italy is about 29 billion cubic meters per year – about 40% of the country’s total needs. After the start of the special operation, the Italian authorities instructed to get rid of dependence on raw materials imported from Russia. At the initiative of Prime Minister Mario Draghi, concrete steps were taken, in addition, new agreements were signed on the diversification of energy sources. In May, the politician confirmed his intention to get rid of dependence on Russian gas in the second half of 2024. According to the head of Eni, Claudio Descalzi, this will take a little longer – during 2025.

In addition, in May it became known that Eni began opening accounts with Gazprombank to pay for gas supplies from Russia. The decision, as noted, agreed with the Italian authorities.
