George Michael, one of the brightest pop stars of the Eighties, died from the heart failure at his home. On December 25, the Christmas day, the music industry registered another saddest loss; the name of George Michael became the next one in the unlucky chain of 2016 losses. David Bowie started this year with his death, Prince and Leonard Cohen continued it.
George Michael’s fans are mourning, the loss is too unexpected and tragic, the pop singer was preparing his new album and revived the relationships with his old good boyfriend Kenny Goss.
George Michael: music career
George Michael had a greta music career, it was always exemplary, said the colleagues. In 1981, Michael formed duo Wham! with Ridgeley, this project went on to massive success. The duo has been releasing a string of hit singles including Wham Rap! (Enjoy What You Do), Club Tropicana, Wake Me Up Before You Go Go, and legendary Last Christmas.
They were the first Western pop act to visit China when they played there in 1985, before splitting in 1986, by which time Michael had already released a handful of solo singles.
George Michael produced five studio albums, two compilation albums, four video albums, 31 music videos and 40 singles. In the UK, pop star’s albums Faith, Listen Without Prejudice Vol 1, Older and Patience all reached Nr 1 in the UK. The album Older became a real explosion in the world music at all.
The musician won numerous awards throughout his 30-year-career, including three Brit Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, four Ivor Novello Awards, three American Music Awards and two Grammy Awards.
George Michael: personal life
George Michael enjoyed a music career and his success, he sold more than 100 million records. And at the same time the singer had a turbulent personal life.
He enjoyed seven number one singles in the UK, but was dogged by health problems and difficulties with addiction. In 2000s, Michael’s brushes with the law and stories of drug use increasingly made more impact than his musical output.
Things went from bad to worse when he was arrested in public toilets in Beverly Hills, California, in 1998 for engaging in a lewd act.
Michael had previously refused to be drawn on speculation about his sexuality. The arrest forced him to disclose his homosexuality and his relationship with American Kenny Goss.
In 2008, Michael was once again in the spotlight when he was cautioned for possession of class A drugs. This drugs included crack cocaine, and class C drugs.
Michael entered a period of semi-retirement in 2008, quitting live performances and seeking a “quieter life” out of the public eye. But in September 2010 Michael received an eight-week prison sentence for crashing his Range Rover into a shop in north London.
In autumn 2016, Michael announced that he revived his relationship with Kenny Goss who was his the most loyal and loving partner.
Michael’s ex-partner, Fadi Fawaz, tweeted on Monday that he would “never forget” this Christmas, having found the pop star dead “peacefully in bed first thing in the morning”. He added: “I will never stop missing you xx”.
