German opposition accuses government of staging gas deal with Qatar

The trip of German Economy Minister Robert Habek to Qatar on the issue of possible gas supplies to Germany was “well organized”, but “so far ineffective”, Jens Spahn, deputy head of the opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU) faction, said on Twitter.

“The trip to Qatar was well organized and well staged. Only, apparently, so far it has not been effective. The federal government cannot or does not want to say whether at least 1 cubic meter of gas will come from Qatar this winter,” the politician wrote.

Earlier it became known that the German government could not answer the question about the current state of the so-called deal with Qatar on gas supplies. The Pope told the Ministry of Economy “on the German side, companies are responsible for determining the time and volume of possible gas supplies,” therefore “the federal government cannot comment on this.”
